❖ Method of Prayer for a Person Suffering from Incontinence (سلسلہ البول)
❀ Question:
A patient is suffering from constant urinary incontinence. How should he perform his prayers?
❀ Answer by:
Fadheelat al-Shaykh Sayyid Kaleem Hussain Shah ḥafiẓahullāh
Fadheelat al-Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakeel Nasir ḥafiẓahullāh
The ruling for a person suffering from سلسلہ البول (urinary incontinence) is similar to that of a woman experiencing non-menstrual bleeding (Mustahādah). That is, he must perform a fresh ablution (Wudhu) for every prayer.
(As stated by our respected scholars — كَما قال شُيوخُنا)
✔ Detailed Explanation:
◈ The person will perform one Wudhu for each obligatory prayer.
◈ He may offer the entire prayer, including the Sunnah before and after, with the same Wudhu.
◈ If urine passes during the prayer, no sin is incurred, as he is in a state of valid excuse (ma‘zoor), and the ruling in his case is altered due to necessity.
✿ Precautionary Measures:
① Use absorbent undergarments to prevent the impurity from spreading and to maintain cleanliness.
② Continue with medical treatment, and also engage in spiritual remedies.
③ In shā’ Allāh, by the Will of Allah ﷻ, relief from this condition will be granted.
