Position of the Deceased When Carrying the Janazah

❖ Question​

When taking a funeral (janazah) for burial, should the head or the feet of the deceased be carried first?
In other words, should the bier be carried from the head side or the feet side?

❖ Answer​

The deceased should be laid in the shroud (kafan) in the same manner as a person lies down on a regular bed.
Then, the janazah should be carried to the prayer area and the grave in such a way that the head is in front (i.e., carried head-first).
