Placing the Qur'an Next to a Deceased Person – An Islamic Ruling

What is the ruling on placing the Qur'an next to a deceased person?

❖ Answer:​

This practice is baseless, unsupported, and an innovation (Bid‘ah). The Qur'an is the divine speech of Allah, revealed for the guidance of the living, not for it to be placed near the heads of the deceased.

What benefit does this bring to the deceased? None. The pious predecessors (Salaf Sāliḥīn) never practiced such an act.

A true believer should confine himself in religious matters to:

• The Book of Allah (Qur'an)
• The Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ
• The understanding and practices of the early generations of the Ummah

Only then can one ensure adherence to the authentic teachings of Islam.
