(Question by: Ḥājī Nadhīr Khān, Dāmān, Ḥazro)

❀ Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʾammā baʿd!

Placing a garland around the groom’s neck is a vain custom for which no evidence exists in the purified Sharīʿah.

This practice is neither established in the Qur’an al-Karīm, nor does it have any basis in the Aḥādīth of the Prophet ﷺ, nor does it conform to the way of the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥīn.

Therefore, it is necessary to avoid such customs, as they fall into the category of unwarranted innovations (bidʿah).
