Pharaoh’s Accusation of Musa (AS) as a Sorcerer or Madman

Pharaoh’s Accusation Against Musa (AS) of Being a Sorcerer and Insane

Authored by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (Hafizahullah)

❖ Question:

Did Pharaoh accuse Musa (AS) of sorcery and madness?

❖ Answer:

Yes!

Allah ﷻ has narrated his words:

﴿فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِ وَقَالَ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ ﴾ [الذاريات: 39]
"So he turned away with his might and said: ‘A sorcerer or madman.’"

This means that Pharaoh, out of arrogance and enmity, denied the manifest truth brought by Musa (AS) and boasted of his own power and numbers.

The enemy of Allah was dominant over his people, so he gathered all groups under his authority and said: “O Musa! Your matter and your message can only be of two kinds — either you are a sorcerer or you are insane.”
