❖ The Question

Is it permissible to say ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam for Prophet Mūsā عليه السلام, Prophet Ibrāhīm عليه السلام, and likewise for other Messengers? Please clarify with evidence from the Qurʾān and Ḥadīth.

❖ The Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:

In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, in the chapter on Īmān, within the narrations concerning the descent of ʿĪsā عليه السلام, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself used the words ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam when referring to ʿĪsā عليه السلام.

Similarly, in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, as well as in the works of Imām al-Nawawī رحمه الله and others, the expression ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam has been used for other Prophets too.

Therefore, saying ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam for all Prophets is permissible and in accordance with the Qurʾān and Sunnah.
