Permissibility of Rewards for Encouraging Quran Memorization

Authored by: Dr. Muhammad Zia-ur-Rahman Azmi (Rahimahullah)

Ruling on Rewards Given to Encourage Quran Memorization

The scholars have clarified that there is no harm in giving rewards to encourage the memorization of the Quran. This is considered permissible because it serves a noble and valid Shari'ah objective. The principle in Islamic jurisprudence states:

"The ruling of a means depends on the ruling of its objective."
Thus, since the objective is virtuous, the means to achieve it, such as offering rewards, are also permissible.
