Ruling on Sa’i if Not Performed After Tawaf
Source: Fatāwā Arkān al-Islām
A person upon whom Sa’i was obligatory performed Tawaf but then left Makkah without performing Sa’i. Later, he learned that Sa’i had been obligatory upon him. Should he perform only Sa’i, or is repeating Tawaf also required?
Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
If a person performs Tawaf under the assumption that Sa’i is not obligatory upon him, but later learns that it was indeed obligatory, then he should perform only Sa’i. Repeating Tawaf is not necessary.
✿ The sequence between Tawaf and Sa’i (i.e., performing Sa’i immediately after Tawaf) is not a strict condition.
✿ Even if someone deliberately delays Sa’i after Tawaf, there is no harm in doing so.
✿ However, it is better and more virtuous to perform Sa’i immediately after Tawaf.
