Performing Hajj on Behalf of One’s Father

Fatwa by: Former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him)

Question:

My father passed away about ten years ago. He was committed to all religious obligations but could not perform Hajj due to financial constraints. By Allah's will, I came to Saudi Arabia for teaching duties. After coming here, I performed the obligatory Hajj for myself. Now, I wish to perform Hajj on behalf of my deceased father. Can I do this?

Answer:

It is permissible for you to perform Hajj on behalf of your father, and you will also be rewarded for this. May Allah accept our efforts and make all matters easy for us. Ameen.
