Extracted from: Fatāwā Arkān-e-Islām

❖ Question:

What is the ruling regarding a person performing Ḥajj on behalf of his deceased grandfather, while he has already performed his own obligatory Ḥajj?

❖ Answer:

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd...

If a person has already performed his own obligatory Ḥajj, then it is permissible for him to perform Ḥajj on behalf of his deceased grandfather, provided that the grandfather did not perform Ḥajj during his lifetime.

✔ Key Points:

✿ This act is permissible in Sharīʿah, as performing Ḥajj al-Badal (substitute Hajj) is established from the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
✿ The teachings of the Prophet ﷺ clearly show that a person may perform Ḥajj on behalf of someone else — only after fulfilling his own obligatory Ḥajj.
