(Excerpt adapted from Shaykh Zubair ʿAlī Zaʾī’s book Hudiyyat al-Muslimīn – Namāz ke Aham Masāʾil maʿa Mukammal Namāz Nabawiyyah ﷺ)
From Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah رضي الله عنه, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
«قولوا: اللهم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم إنك حميد مجيد، اللهم بارك على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما باركت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم في العالمين إنك حميد مجيد»
"Say: O Allah, send prayers upon Muḥammad and upon the family of Muḥammad as You sent prayers upon Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm. Verily, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad as You blessed Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm among all creation. Verily, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, 1/477, ḥadīth 3380)
① This ḥadīth proves that reciting Ṣalāt Ibrāhīmiyyah in the tashahhud of prayer is obligatory (farḍ).
② Based on the general wording of this ḥadīth and the narration in Sunan al-Nasāʾī (3/241, ḥadīth 1721; al-Sunan al-Kubrā by al-Bayhaqī 2/499–500), reciting ṣalāt even in the first tashahhud is valid and in fact better and more virtuous.
③ Regarding the above version of Ṣalāt Ibrāhīmiyyah, Muḥammad Ilyās Fayṣal (Deobandī, muqallid) mistakenly attributed it to Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (ḥadīth 405) in his books Namāz-e-Payghambar, p. 198, and Chālīs Ḥadīthen, pp. 21–22, 25.
In reality, this exact narration is not present in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim. Attributing a Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī narration to Muslim — knowingly or negligently — is an indication of the author’s weak grasp of ḥadīth scholarship.
