❖ Question:
Can envy (ḥasad) also exist in a pure heart (qalb-e-saleem)?
❖ Answer:
No!
It is narrated from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr رضي الله عنهما who said:
It was asked from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Who among people is the best?
«قال كل مخموم القلب صدوق اللسان قالوا: صدوق اللسان نعرفه، فما مخموم القلب؟ قال: هو التقي النقي، لا إثم فيه، ولا بغي، ولا غل، ولا حسد »
“The Prophet ﷺ said: Everyone who is pure of heart (makhmūm al-qalb) and truthful in speech.”
They asked: “We know the one who is truthful in speech, but what is meant by makhmūm al-qalb?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied: “It is the one who is pious and pure, in whom there is no sin, no transgression, no malice, and no envy.”
