No Fixed Minimum or Maximum Duration for Menstruation in Islam

Minimum and Maximum Duration of Menstruation

Source: Fatawa Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri

Question:

What is the minimum and maximum duration of menstruation?

Answer:

The days of menstruation have no fixed minimum or maximum limit. Its duration depends on natural disposition and individual habit.

Some people claim that the minimum duration is three days and the maximum is ten days, but this has no evidence. The narrations cited in this regard are not authentic; rather, they are either fabricated (mawdu‘) or weak (da‘if).

“All such narrations are weak, and the Hadith scholars unanimously agree upon their weakness.”
