Never Point a Weapon at a Muslim: A Warning Against Shayṭān’s Deception

✿ Prohibition of Pointing Weapons at a Muslim Brother and Protection from Shayṭān’s Deception ✿
Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha ḥafiẓahullāh

❖ Question:

Does pointing a weapon at one’s Muslim brother occur due to Shayṭān’s deception?

✔ Answer:

Yes.
The Prophet ﷺ clearly warned against this in an authentic ḥadīth.

❖ Prophetic Warning Against Raising Weapons

Sayyidunā Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"لا يشير أحدكم على أخيه بالسلاح، فإنه لا يدري لعل الشيطان ينزغ في يده، فيقع في حفرة من النار"
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī Ḥadīth 6661 | Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim Ḥadīth 2617]

“None of you should point a weapon at his brother, for he does not know — perhaps Shayṭān may provoke him, and he may fall into a pit of the Fire.”

❖ Explanation:

✔ It is impermissible for any rational Muslim to point a weapon at another Muslim — even in jest.
✔ Shayṭān may incite sudden aggression, and unintended harm may occur, possibly leading to death or serious injury.
Without any justifiable Sharʿī reason, Shayṭān tempts people toward revenge, harm, or recklessness.

Such an act, even without premeditated intent, may become a cause for destruction in the Hereafter.

❖ Practical Guidance:

Muslims should avoid lifting weapons unnecessarily, especially in the following scenarios:

Festive events
Elections and political gatherings
Public markets and crowded places
Mela grounds and celebrations

These are places where Shayṭān often leads people to impulsive behavior, prompting actions that cause harm and social disruption.

✔ Summary:

Pointing weapons — even jokingly — is a serious offense in Islam.
✔ The influence of Shayṭān can turn a harmless moment into a cause of sin and destruction.
✔ Muslims must show restraint and awareness, particularly in emotionally charged or public environments.

Safety, dignity, and the sanctity of life are preserved through obedience to prophetic guidance.
