Deliberately Missing Fasts of Ramadan Without Valid Excuse

✔ Obligation of Fasting in Ramadan:

Fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and its obligation is proven by the Qur'an, Sunnah, and consensus (ijmaʿ) of the Ummah.

Allah says:

(Al-Baqarah 183)
“O you who have believed, fasting is prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you.”

(Al-Baqarah 185)
“So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it.”

✔ Clarification from Hadith:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar
A man asked why he performs Hajj and ʿUmrah every year but does not engage in jihad. He replied:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Islam is built upon five things — testifying that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing prayer, giving zakah, fasting in Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House (Kaʿbah).”
(Bukhari 4514, Muslim 16)

Warning for Those Who Neglect Ramadan

Narrated by Abu Hurairah
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“May his nose be rubbed in dust — the one in whose presence I am mentioned and he does not send blessings upon me;
may his nose be rubbed in dust — the one who lives to see Ramadan and does not attain forgiveness;
may his nose be rubbed in dust — the one who finds his parents in old age and yet fails to enter Paradise.”

(Tirmidhi 3545)

Neglecting Hajj Despite Ability

✔ Obligation from the Qur’an:

وَلِلَّـهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ... (Aal Imran 97)
“And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House — for whoever is able to find thereto a way. But whoever disbelieves — then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.”

✔ Virtues of Hajj:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masʿud
“Perform Hajj and ʿUmrah frequently, for they eliminate poverty and sins just as the bellows eliminate impurities from iron, gold, and silver. And the reward for an accepted Hajj is nothing but Paradise.”

(Tirmidhi 810)

Narrated by Abu Hurairah
“Whoever performs Hajj and refrains from sexual relations and sins, he returns free of sin as the day he was born.”

(Bukhari 1819, Muslim 1350)

❖ Unjust Killing of a Believer

✔ Prophet's Sermon on Sanctity of Life:

Narrated by Ibn Abbas
During the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Your blood, your wealth, and your honor are sacred to one another as this day (9th Dhul-Hijjah), this city (Makkah), and this month (Dhul-Hijjah) are sacred.”
(Bukhari 1739)

✔ Grave Warnings in Hadith:

Abdullah ibn Umar
“Whoever raises a weapon against us is not from among us.”

(Bukhari 6874, Muslim 98)

✔ Qur’anic Threats for Killing a Believer:

وَمَن يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُّتَعَمِّدًا... (An-Nisa 93)
“Whoever kills a believer intentionally — his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally. Allah is angry with him, has cursed him, and prepared for him a great punishment.”

(Al-Ma’idah 32)
“Whoever kills a soul not in retaliation for another soul or spreading corruption — it is as if he has slain all mankind.”

✔ Further Hadiths on the Severity of Killing:

Abu Bakrah
“When two Muslims confront each other with swords, both the killer and the one killed are in Hell.”

(Bukhari 7083, Muslim 2888)

Abdullah ibn Umar
“Do not revert to disbelief after me by striking the necks of one another.”

(Bukhari 1742, Muslim 65)

Abdullah ibn Amr
“The destruction of the whole world is less significant to Allah than the unjust killing of a Muslim.”

(Tirmidhi 1395)

Abu Saʿid al-Khudri and Abu Hurairah
“If the dwellers of the heavens and the earth conspired in the killing of a believer, Allah would throw them all face-down into Hell.”

(Tirmidhi 1398)

❖ Repentance & the Unforgivable Killings

“Whoever kills a believer and is pleased with his act, Allah will not accept his obligatory or voluntary deeds.”

(Abu Dawood 4270)

Abu Darda
“There is hope for the forgiveness of every sin, except for the one who dies in a state of shirk or the one who intentionally kills a believer.”

(Abu Dawood 4270)

Abdullah ibn Masʿud
“On the Day of Judgment, the first matter to be judged among the people will be concerning bloodshed.”

(Bukhari 6533, Muslim 1678)

❖ Only the Islamic Ruler Can Execute Capital Punishment

The ruling on qisas (retribution), hudud (fixed punishments), and taʿzir (discretionary punishments) lies solely with the Muslim ruler or his deputy — not individuals.

Killing a Protected Non-Muslim

Abdullah ibn Amr
“Whoever kills a non-Muslim living under a treaty will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, which can be smelled from a distance of forty years.”

(Bukhari 6914)

Abu Bakrah
“Whoever kills a treaty-bound non-Muslim before the expiration of the treaty — Allah has made Paradise forbidden for him.”

(Abu Dawood 2760)

Killing of Children

✔ Condemned in the Qur’an:

وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَوْلَادَكُمْ... (Al-Isra 31)
“Do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Surely, killing them is a grave sin.”

(Al-Anʿam 140)
“Indeed, those who killed their children out of ignorance and foolishness have surely suffered a great loss.”

✔ Hadith on Child Killing:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masʿud
The Prophet ﷺ was asked:
“Which sin is greatest in the sight of Allah?”
He replied:
“That you associate partners with Allah while He created you.”
They asked: “Then what?”
He said:
“That you kill your child out of fear that he will eat with you.”
They asked: “Then what?”
He said:
“That you commit adultery with your neighbor’s wife.”
(Bukhari 4477, Muslim 86)
