◈ Scholarly Criticism


  • Imam al-Dhahabi states:

    He is not trustworthy and not reliable.

  • Ibn Ḥibbān writes:

    He was known to fabricate Hadith.

  • Daraqutni and others assert:

    He is matrūk (abandoned) in Hadith narration.

  • Imam al-Azdi says:

    He is a liar (kadhdhāb).

◈ Fabricated Content Attributed to Him


Ahmad ibn ʿAlī al-Sulaymānī reports:


① ʿUmar ibn Ṣubayḥ fabricated a sermon, falsely claiming it to be the last sermon of the Prophet ﷺ during his lifetime.
② He also fabricated a charm (mantra), falsely attributing it to the Prophet ﷺ, with the claim that reciting it before sleep would protect a person from experiencing nocturnal emission (iḥtilām).
