Moral Teachings of Islam and the Rights of Creation

❖ The Moral Foundations of Islam​

Islam's pristine teachings are categorized into three major segments:

✦ The Moral Foundations of Islam​

Every individual is obligated with certain duties towards Allah Almighty and the Messenger ﷺ, as well as towards fellow human beings. Duties that must be fulfilled are referred to as “Fara'id”, and the corresponding entitlements of the recipient are termed as “Huqooq” (rights).

① Rights of Allah ﷻ:​

✔ Speak about Allah with knowledge
✔ Worship only Allah
✔ Fear only Allah
✔ Seek help only from Allah
✔ Pray only to Allah for needs and relief
✔ Make vows solely for Allah
✔ Rely solely on Allah
✔ Seek the pleasure of Allah
✔ Place hope in Allah
✔ Love Allah
✔ Be modest before Allah
✔ Remember Allah
✔ Do not obey anyone against Allah
✔ Avoid obedience to false deities
✔ Do not worship Satan
✔ Maintain prayer
✔ Pay Zakat
✔ Fast during Ramadan
✔ Perform Hajj
✔ Avoid disobedience to Allah
✔ Refrain from Shirk
✔ Abstain from disbelief
✔ Repent and seek forgiveness from Allah

② Rights of the Messenger ﷺ:​

✔ Believe in the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Avoid nullifiers of faith in the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Refrain from any disrespect towards him ﷺ
✔ Avoid criticizing his Shari'ah
✔ Obey the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Follow the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Refer to him ﷺ in disputed matters
✔ Do not oppose the Prophet ﷺ in any issue
✔ Refrain from religious innovations
✔ Be sincere to the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Love the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Honor and revere the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Send abundant Salawat upon him ﷺ
✔ Seek nearness to him ﷺ through righteous acts

③ Rights of Islam:​

✔ Enjoin good and forbid evil
✔ Practice Islam according to one’s ability

④ Rights of the Qur’an:​

✔ Believe in the Qur’an
✔ Reflect upon and understand its message
✔ Recite the Qur’an
✔ Observe etiquette during recitation
✔ Convey its teachings
✔ Act upon its teachings
✔ Judge matters by the Qur’an

⑤ Rights of the Companions رضي الله عنهم:​

✔ Love them sincerely
✔ Have faith like theirs
✔ Emulate their example
✔ Show them due respect
✔ Avoid criticizing them
✔ Pray for their mercy and forgiveness

⑥ Rights of the Scholars:​

✔ Speak respectfully with scholars
✔ Honor them
✔ Keep their company
✔ Travel to seek knowledge from them
✔ Ask them questions when ignorant

⑦ Rights of Fellow Muslims:​

✔ Greet with “As-Salamu Alaikum”
✔ Accept invitations
✔ Be sincere
✔ Visit the sick
✔ Respond to one who sneezes
✔ Attend funerals
✔ Maintain family ties
✔ Do not harm
✔ Protect honor
✔ Avoid backbiting
✔ Love for Allah’s sake
✔ Do not look down upon them

⑧ Rights of Parents:​

✔ Show respect and reverence
✔ Obey them
✔ Treat them kindly
✔ Fulfill their needs
✔ Avoid abusive speech
✔ Pray for their forgiveness

⑨ Rights of Children:​

✔ Pray for righteous offspring
✔ Do not kill them
✔ Give good names
✔ Offer sound upbringing
✔ Encourage Salah
✔ Treat with compassion
✔ Teach Islamic knowledge
✔ Maintain fairness
✔ Leave inheritance

⑩ Spousal Rights:​

Husband’s Rights:
✔ Keep him happy
✔ Obey him
✔ Protect his wealth
✔ Show gratitude

Wife’s Rights:
✔ Treat kindly
✔ Avoid abuse
✔ Show affection
✔ Avoid hitting
✔ Spend quality time
✔ Protect from Hell
✔ Provide financially
✔ Pay dowry
✔ Make her the adornment of home
✔ Show love
✔ Consult her
✔ Respect her

Rights of Mosques:

✔ Build mosques
✔ Pray therein
✔ Keep them clean
✔ Avoid loud voices
✔ Populate them with worship

⑫ Servant’s Rights Over Allah:​

✔ Forgiveness
✔ Divine help
✔ Allah’s pleasure
✔ Reward for efforts

⑬ Rights of Neighbors:​

✔ Treat kindly
✔ Invite to Islam
✔ Be cheerful
✔ Wish for them what you wish for yourself
✔ Be patient over harm
✔ Protect their rights

Rights of Relatives:

✔ Maintain kinship
✔ Treat well
✔ Be just
✔ Cooperate
✔ Avoid hurtful words and boasting

⑮ Rights of Siblings:​

✔ Love for the sake of Allah
✔ Avoid severance
✔ Be cheerful
✔ Be well-wishing
✔ Avoid mocking
✔ Be loyal
✔ Pray for them in their absence

⑯ Rights of Orphans:​

✔ Treat with kindness
✔ Protect their wealth
✔ Support and care for them

⑰ ights of the Needy and Poor:​

✔ Feed them
✔ Spend on them
✔ Protect all their rights
✔ Provide life necessities

⑱ Rights of the Elderly:​

✔ Honor in society
✔ Respecting the elderly is respect for Allah
✔ It reflects faith
✔ Considered a blessing
✔ Priority in services
✔ Exemption from undue burden

⑲ Rights of the Disabled:​

✔ Special care
✔ Exemption from general rules
✔ Exempt from military duties

⑳ Rights of Rulers and Citizens:​

The citizens must obey rulers in righteousness and avoid disobedience. Rulers must not oppress, should create employment, and fulfill national duties.

㉑ Rights of Servants and Laborers:​

✔ Just economic system
✔ Provide food
✔ Medical care
✔ Timely wages
✔ No oppression
✔ Forgive mistakes

㉒ Rights of Guests:​

✔ Provide food
✔ Honor them

㉓ Rights of Travelers:​

✔ Provide food
✔ Offer financial aid
✔ Provide travel facilities
✔ Enjoin good, forbid evil

㉔ Rights Regarding Life and Property:​

✔ Rights of the self
✔ Purification of the soul
✔ Ways to purify
✔ Repent to Allah
✔ Constant remembrance
✔ Avoid enslavement to desires
✔ Strive against the self
✔ Adopt cleanliness
✔ Eat moderately
✔ Keep mouth clean

Rights of Wealth:
✔ Earn lawfully
✔ Pay Zakat

㉕ Rights of Minorities in Islam:​

✔ Invite kindly to Islam
✔ Do not insult their deities
✔ Marriage with People of the Book is permissible
✔ Show kindness and justice
✔ Avoid oppression
✔ Their food is lawful
✔ Gifts to polytheists are allowed
✔ Return their greetings
✔ Be benevolent
✔ Fulfill promises
✔ Respect privacy
✔ Grant religious freedom
✔ Ensure economic freedom
✔ Right to employment
✔ Right to safety
✔ Avoid unjust killing

㉖ Rights of Animals:​

✔ Do not oppress them
✔ Do not burn them
✔ Harmful animals may be killed
