Modern Physics and the Fall of Materialism through Consciousness

✿ Supremacy of Consciousness and the End of Materialism in Modern Physics ✿

❖ Consciousness and Matter: Philosophical and Scientific Discourse

Robert Griffiths’ Opinion
According to Robert Griffiths, a physicist and recipient of the Heinemann Prize, whenever atheism or irreligion is discussed, the conversation inevitably transitions from science to the realm of philosophy. Physics has not yet been effectively employed to counter the theories of atheism.

An interesting depiction of the consciousness-versus-matter debate is presented in the saying of T.H. Key:

"What is mind? Never matter. What is matter? Never mind.”

❖ The Chicken or the Egg? The Question of Consciousness or Matter

Just like the riddle of the chicken and the egg, a fundamental question remains:
➤ Did consciousness come into existence first, or matter?

➤ Is consciousness a product of matter?
➤ Or is matter a creation of consciousness?

This very question shapes the foundational theories concerning the nature of the universe.

The Reality of the Universe: Two Foundational Theories

① Idealism (مثالیت)

  • Consciousness or “Universal Mind” is considered the primary source of reality.
  • Matter originates from consciousness or has been created by a superior intellect.
  • This theory forms the basis of religion and belief in God.

② Materialism (مادیت پرستی)

  • Matter and energy are regarded as the foundation of reality.
  • Consciousness arises from the evolutionary interactions of matter.
  • According to this view, matter is eternal and self-existent.

There exists no third viewpoint beyond these two; every individual must choose one of them.

❖ Modern Physics: The End of Materialism

✿ Max Planck’s Theory

"Matter itself does not exist independently; rather, it comes into being through a force under the influence of a higher consciousness."

This implies that consciousness is the foundation of all material realities.

✿ Albert Einstein’s View

"A supreme force operates within the laws of the universe, before which human knowledge and power are insignificant."

✿ Eugene Wigner and the Role of Consciousness

According to Eugene Wigner, understanding the laws of quantum mechanics is impossible without acknowledging consciousness.
This serves as evidence that consciousness is one of the fundamental realities of the universe.

❖ Validation of Consciousness: Views of Other Scientists

Sir Arthur Eddington:

"The concept of a supreme consciousness or universal mind aligns with scientific research."

Sir James Jeans:

"This universe appears not as a machine but as the thought of a supreme consciousness."

Conn Henry:

"The reality of matter cannot exist without consciousness. Matter is a product of a higher consciousness."

Freeman Dyson:

"Atoms possess the ability to choose, akin to consciousness."
"The universe is fertile ground for the growth of consciousness."

❖ The Relationship Between Religion and Science

Max Planck:

"Science and religion complement each other."
"For religion, God is the beginning of everything; for science, God is the culmination of everything."

Werner Heisenberg:

"Scientific and religious interpretations of the universe both point toward reality, and that reality is God."

Paul Dirac:

"God is a great mathematician who created the universe based on mathematical principles."

❖ Biology and Materialism

Harold J. Morowitz:
Highlighting the intellectual gap between physics and biology, he notes that while physics acknowledges the existence of consciousness, biology still clings to materialism.

Richard Lewontin:

"Science has been confined within the bounds of materialism so that there remains no room for the existence of God."

❖ Conclusion: Supremacy of Consciousness

George Stanciu and Robert Augros:

"Materialism is now deprived of both scientific and philosophical support."

The origin of the universe is not material but stems from an immaterial and conscious reality.

In the light of modern physics, it is now evident that matter is not eternal, and consciousness is the cause of the material universe, not its effect.
