❀ Interpretation of Repeatedly Seeing a Deceased Person in Dreams ❀
This response is derived from the fatwas compiled in the book “500 Questions and Answers for Women,” translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.
What is the interpretation of seeing a deceased person repeatedly in a dream?
If the deceased person appears in a good state in the dream, then one should hope for goodness on their behalf. However, if the condition is unpleasant or disturbing, it may be the result of a satanic influence, as Satan can impersonate disliked forms to cause distress.
The intention behind this is to sadden and disturb the living, as mentioned in the Qur'an:
﴿إِنَّمَا النَّجْوَى مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ لِيَحْزُنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَيْسَ بِضَارِّهِمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّـهِ﴾
“Secret whisperings are only from Satan to grieve those who believe; but he cannot harm them at all except by the permission of Allah.”
[Surah Al-Mujādilah: 10]
Thus, if one sees a deceased person in an undesirable state, they should seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan and not inform others about such dreams. This will not harm the deceased.
Similarly, anyone who sees a disturbing dream should:
✔ Seek Allah's protection from Satan
✔ Spit lightly to the left three times
✔ Change the side they were lying on
✔ Perform wudu (ablution) and pray, if possible
✔ And importantly, not speak of the dream to anyone, as this ensures it causes no harm
