Marriage of Muslim Daughters to Non-Praying Men Is Prohibited in Islam

❖ Extracted from the book

✿ Parents Must Not Marry Their Muslim Daughter to a Man Who Abandons Prayer ✿

❖ Ruling:

🚫 A Muslim woman must not be married to a man who does not perform Ṣalāh, because the one who abandons prayer is considered a disbeliever (kāfir) by many scholars.

🛑 Marriage between a believing Muslim woman and a disbelieving man is categorically ḥarām and invalid in Islamic law.

❖ Supporting Reason:

✔ The ruling is based on the understanding that abandoning obligatory prayer is an act of disbelief (kufr), as evidenced by several authentic narrations from the Prophet ﷺ and interpretations of major scholars.

📌 Hence, a man who does not pray is not a valid marital candidate for a Muslim woman.

❖ Note:

A Muslim man, however, may marry a woman who does not perform Ṣalāh or is guilty of shirk in verbal testimony,
as long as she falls under the category of "People of the Book" (Ahl al-Kitāb) — as previously explained in the permissibility of marrying chaste Jewish or Christian women.

◈ Key Points:

Muslim women cannot be married to irreligious or non-practicing men who neglect prayer.
Such a marriage is void due to the man’s classification as a non-believer.
Prayer is a fundamental pillar of Islām and a condition of a valid Muslim identity.
Parents must prioritize religion when selecting a spouse for their daughter.
