◈ Obligation of Qadā’ for Missed Fasts Due to Shar'i Excuse

➊ Allah Almighty states:
﴿فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُم مَّرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ﴾

"So whoever among you is ill or on a journey – then [let him fast] an equal number of days [later]."
[Al-Baqarah: 184]

This verse clearly establishes the obligation of making up the missed fasts for anyone who could not fast due to illness or travel.

➋ Narrated by ʿĀ’ishah رضي الله عنها:
"فنؤمر بقضاء الصيام ولا نؤمر بقضاء الصلاة"

"We were commanded to make up the fasts but were not commanded to make up the prayers."
[Muslim: 335, Kitāb al-Ḥayḍ: Bāb Wujūb Qaḍāʾ al-Ṣawm ʿala al-Ḥā’iḍ Dūna al-Ṣalāh, Bukhārī: 321]

This statement refers to fasts missed during menstruation, indicating that compensating missed fasts is mandatory, while missed prayers are not required to be made up in such a case.
