Leading Prayer with Tayammum and Sujūd al-Sahw for Recitation Errors

❀ Question ❀

If an imam leads the prayer with tayammum due to a valid Sharʿi excuse, is the prayer valid? Also, if the imam recites loudly in a prayer meant to be recited silently—or vice versa—does this require sujūd al-sahw (prostration of forgetfulness)?

✔ Leading Prayer with Tayammum

If the imam performs tayammum due to a valid Sharʿi reason and then leads the prayer, his prayer is valid, and therefore the prayer of the followers (muqtadis) is also valid.

🟢 This establishes that leading prayer with tayammum is permissible when a genuine excuse exists.

✔ Sujūd al-Sahw for Mistakes in Recitation Mode

In loud-recitation prayers (jahriyyah, such as Fajr, Maghrib, ʿIshāʾ):

◉ If the imam recites silently instead of loudly, or
◉ In silent-recitation prayers (sirriyyah, such as Ẓuhr, ʿAṣr), if he recites loudly instead of silently,

📌 Then in both cases, sujūd al-sahw becomes necessary, as this is considered an error in the mode of performing an obligatory part of the prayer.

❀ Summary ❀

◉ If an imam performs prayer with tayammum due to a valid reason, it is valid for him and the followers.
◉ Reciting silently in a loud prayer or loudly in a silent prayer makes sujūd al-sahw obligatory.
◉ These rulings ensure the integrity and correctness of congregational prayer according to the Sunnah.
