In our society, many people arrange special worship on the nights of the two Eids. When asked why they do this, they say that it is written in such and such book or such and such scholar has said that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
① Whoever keeps awake (i.e., worships) on the nights of both Eids and the night of mid-Sha'ban, on the Day when hearts will die, his heart will not die.
② Whoever prays two rak'ahs on the night of Eid al-Adha (in such a way that) in each rak'ah he recites Surah Al-Fatiha fifteen (15) times, Surah Al-Ikhlas fifteen (15) times, Surah Al-Falaq fifteen (15) times, and Surah An-Nas fifteen (15) times, and when he finishes with salam, he recites Ayat al-Kursi three times and asks for forgiveness fifteen (15) times, then Allah will make him among the people of Paradise, forgive his hidden and open sins, and for every verse he recited (in the prayer), he will be credited with the reward of one Hajj and one Umrah, as if he has freed sixty (60) slaves from the children of Ismail. If he dies between that day and the coming Friday, he will die the death of a martyr.
③ Whoever stays awake (worshiping) on four nights, Paradise becomes obligatory for him:
● Laylat al-Tarwiyah (the night of 8th Dhu al-Hijjah).
● Laylat al-Arafah (the night of 9th Dhu al-Hijjah).
● Laylat al-Nahr (the night of 10th Dhu al-Hijjah, the night of Eid al-Adha).
● Laylat al-Fitr (the night of 1st Shawwal, the night of Eid al-Fitr), etc.
The writer respectfully informs such people that the books you are referring to have not classified these hadiths in terms of authenticity or weakness, and the scholars who have guided you to these hadiths have either hidden their reality from you or are themselves unaware of their reality.
My Islamic brothers! All the narrations related to this matter are severely weak, rejected, fabricated, and concocted, as the writer has proven by the grace of Allah in this treatise. Therefore, you are requested not to arrange special worship on these two nights.
Also, I respectfully urge you to read this treatise carefully and with justice; God willing, the truth will become clear to you.
I consider it appropriate to mention two more points on this topic:
(1) Someone may say to you that it is permissible to act upon weak hadiths in the chapter of virtues of deeds. You should respectfully reply to them: My brother! All the narrations related to this issue are not just weak but severely weak, rejected, fabricated, and concocted, and even in the chapter of virtues, such hadiths are not acted upon.
(2) Someone may say to you that the Ahl al-Hadith Jamaat tries to keep people away from deeds and prevents them from performing righteous deeds. You should respectfully reply to them: My brother! The Ahl al-Hadith Jamaat does not prevent people from performing righteous deeds but rather:
● Prevents them from deeds which they consider part of the Shariah but are not actually part of it.
● Prevents them from innovations (bid'ah).
● Invites them to those righteous deeds which are proven by authentic and good hadiths. And so forth.
⟐ Golden Saying:
Imam Muhammad bin Abu Bakr, known as Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 751 AH) says:
ولا صح عنه فى إحياء ليلتي العيدين شيء
"There is no established evidence from the Noble Prophet ﷺ regarding staying awake on the nights of the two Eids (i.e., specifically worshipping during those nights)."

◈ Marfu' (Prophetic) Narrations
① Narration of Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him
Imam Abu al-Qasim Ali ibn al-Hasan, known as Ibn Asakir, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 571 AH) says:
[Translation] It is narrated from our master Muadh ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever stays awake in worship for four nights, Paradise becomes obligatory for him:
● The night of Tarwiyah (i.e., the night of the 8th of Dhu al-Hijjah).
● The night of Arafah (i.e., the night of the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah).
● The night of Nahr (i.e., the night of the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah, Eid al-Adha).
● The night of Fitr (i.e., the night of the 1st of Shawwal, Eid al-Fitr).

✿ Imam Abu al-Faraj Abd al-Rahman ibn Ali al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 597 AH): هذا حديث لا يصح This hadith is not established.
[Reason] There are three defects in this narration:
➊ عبد الرحيم بن زيد بن الحواري العمي This narrator is abandoned; he narrated rejected and fabricated narrations from his father.
The statements of the great scholars are presented:
✿ Imam Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Ma’in, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 233 AH): ليس بشئ

and others. And this narration was narrated by him from his father.
They are weak narrators.
The statements of the great scholars are presented:
✿ Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Sa’d al-Baghdadi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 230 AH): وكان ضعيفا فى الحديث He was weak in hadith.
Reference: (Al-Tabaqat al-Kubra, edited by Muhammad Abd al-Qadir, 178/7, no: 3170)

For details see:
Reference: (Tahdhib al-Kamal fi Asma’ al-Rijal by al-Mizzi, edited by Bashar Awad 56/10, no: 2102)
and others.➌ In the narration, Wahb ibn Munabbih, may Allah have mercy on him, is narrating from our master Muadh ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, while Wahb, may Allah have mercy on him, was born in 34 AH and Ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, died in 18 AH; therefore, the chain is disconnected.
⟐ Now a few points are presented as a warning:
[Warning Number: 1] Imam Ibn al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him, says: قال يحيي : ليس بشيء وقال مرة : كذاب Imam Yahya ibn Ma'in, may Allah have mercy on him, says: Abdul Rahim is nothing, and once he said: He is a liar.
Reference: (Al-Du'afa wal-Matrukoon by Abdullah al-Qadi: 102/2, p. 1915)
The same statement has also been narrated by Imam Mughaltai and Hafiz Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy on them, regarding Imam Aqili, may Allah have mercy on him. See:
Reference: (Ikmal Tahdhib al-Kamal fi Asma' al-Rijal by Mughaltai, edited by Adel and Osama: 260/8, p. 3283 and Tahdhib al-Tahdhib by Hafiz: 306/6, p. 602)
The writer respectfully submits that in Al-Du'afa al-Kabir by Al-Aqili, the translation of Abdul Rahim is present, but there the author has narrated two statements from Imam Ibn Ma'in, may Allah have mercy on him, with his chain of narration:
● ليس بشيء
But the statement calling him a malicious liar has not been narrated. Despite extensive search, I could not find any criticism of Abdul Rahim as a malicious liar from Imam Ibn Ma'in, may Allah have mercy on him, with an authentic or good chain of narration or in any of his published books. And Allah knows best.
[Warning Number: 2] The narration under discussion in Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib by Al-Asbahani is as follows:
✿ Imam Abu al-Qasim Isma'il ibn Ahmad, nicknamed Qiwam al-Sunnah, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 535 AH) says:
Regarding this, a few points are presented:
● In the chain of narration, it is Abdul Rahman ibn Zaid, whereas the correct name is Abdul Rahim ibn Zaid as mentioned in other books.
● This book is available in PDF format in Al-Maktabah Al-Waqfiyyah; in it, Wahb ibn Munabbih is written, which is incorrect, but in Maktabah Shamila it is written Wahb ibn Munabbih, which is correct.
● The text briefly mentions five nights, then details four nights, whereas in other books (whose references the writer has given in the authentication) both briefly and in detail mention four nights. Also, other books mention the night of Eid al-Fitr, not the night of mid-Sha'ban.
Then it occurred to me whether the night of Eid al-Fitr was omitted between "Laylat al-Nahr" and "Laylat al-Nisf min Sha'ban."
Then I looked at Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib by Al-Mundhiri, in which he has narrated the narration under discussion from Imam Asbahani’s book exactly as follows: وروي عن معاذ بن جبل رضى الله عنه قال : قال رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - : من أحيا الليالي الخمس وجبت له الجنة : ليلة التروية، وليلة عرفة، وليلة النحر، وليلة الفطر، وليلة النصف من شعبان رواه الأصبهاني.
Reference: Edited by Al-Albani (Da'if al-Targhib): 334/1, Hadith: 667
From this, I realized that what I had thought was correct.
② Narration of Sayyiduna Kardus, may Allah be pleased with him
Imam Abu al-Faraj Abdul Rahman bin Ali al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 571 AH), says:
[Translation] Sayyiduna Kardus, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever keeps alive (i.e., stays awake and worships) the nights of both Eids and the night of mid-Sha'ban, then on the day when hearts die, his heart will not die.

[Reason for fabrication] There are two defects in the chain of this narration:
➊ إبراهيم بن محمد بن أبى يحيى - واسمه سمعان - الأسلمي: He is a rejected narrator and a liar.
The statements of the Imams are presented:
✿ Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 256 AH): ” تركه ابن المبارك، و الناس “ "Imam Ibn al-Mubarak, may Allah have mercy on him, and others have abandoned him."

✿ Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-Baghdadi, known as Ibn Sa'd, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 230 AH): وكان كثير الحديث. ترك حديثه ليس يكتب He was prolific in hadith; his hadith was abandoned and not to be written.

◈ Now a few points are presented as benefits:
[Benefit no. 1] There are other defects in the chain of the narration under discussion, but they are being ignored.
[Benefit no. 2] Hafiz Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy on him, writes in Al-Talkhis al-Habir:
وفيه حديث ذكره صاحب ” مسند الفردوس “ من طريق إبراهيم بن أبى يحيى، عن أبى معشر عن أبى أمامة هو ابن سهل مرفوعا نحوه
Regarding this matter (i.e., it is recommended to supplicate on these five nights), there is a hadith which the author of Musnad al-Firdaws narrated as Marfu' through the chain of Ibrahim ibn Abi Yahya from Abi Ma'shar from Abi Umamah ibn Suhail.
Reference: (Al-Talkhis al-Habir, edited by Dr. Muhammad al-Thani: 1073/3)
The writer respectfully submits that in this chain also Ibrahim the liar is present, as well as Nahbih Abu Ma'shar al-Madani, who is a weak narrator. See:
Reference: (Tahdhib al-Kamal by al-Mizzi, edited by Dr. Bashar 'Awad: 322/29, hadith no. 6386)
and others.④ Narrations of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah Al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him (Second narration)
✿ Imam Abu al-Faraj Abdul Rahman bin Ali al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 597 AH) says:
[Translation] Sayyiduna Abu Amamah al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever prays two rak'ahs on the night of Eid al-Adha (in such a way that) in each rak'ah he recites Surah Al-Fatiha fifteen (15) times, Surah Al-Ikhlas fifteen (15) times, Surah Al-Falaq fifteen (15) times, and Surah An-Nas fifteen (15) times, and when he finishes with the tasleem, he recites Ayat al-Kursi three times and asks for forgiveness fifteen (15) times, then Allah will make him among the people of Paradise, forgive his hidden and open sins, and for every verse he recited (in the prayer) He will be credited with the reward of one Hajj and one Umrah, as if he has freed sixty (60) slaves from the children of Ismail. If he dies between that day and the coming Friday, he will die the death of a martyr.

✿ Imam Abu al-Faraj Abdul Rahman bin Ali al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 597 AH): ” هذا حديث لا يصح “ This hadith is not authentic.
[Reason for fabrication] In the chain of narration of this report ”أحمد بن محمد بن غالب، غلام الخليل “ who is a liar and fabricator.
Statements of the great scholars are presented:
✿ Imam Abu Ahmad bin Uday al-Jurjani, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 365 AH): ” سمعت أبا عبد الله النهاوندي بحران فى مجلس أبى عروبة يقول : قلت لغلام الخليل: هذه الأحاديث الرقائق التى تحدث بها؟ قال: وضعناها لنرقق بها قلوب العامة “ "I heard in the place of Harran, in the gathering of Imam Abu 'Uroobah, may Allah have mercy on him, Abu Abdullah al-Nahawandi, may Allah have mercy on him, saying: I asked Khalil's slave: Do you narrate these delicate hadiths? and others⑤ Sayyiduna Abu Umamah Al-Bahili رضي الله عنه Narrations (Third Narration)
✿ Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Yazid al-Qazwini, known as Ibn Majah, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 273 AH) says:
حدثنا أبو أحمد المرار بن حموية قال: حدثنا محمد بن المصفى قال: حدثنا بقية بن الوليد، عن ثور بن يزيد ، عن خالد بن معدان، عن أبى أمامة ، عن النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من قام ليلتي العيدين محتسبا لله ، لم يمت قلبه يوم تموت القلوب
[Translation] Our master Abu Amamah al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever stands in prayer on the nights of the two Eids with the intention of reward and recompense, on that day his heart will not die on the day when hearts die.

✿ Allama Al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him: ”موضوع“
Reference: (Fi Tahqiq Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1782)
[Reason] In the chain of this narration, ” بقية بن الوليد بن صائد الحميري “ are present who were trustworthy and truthful narrators but they frequently practiced tadlis (concealment) with unknown, weak, abandoned, and lying narrators.
The statements of the great scholars are presented:
✿ Imam Shams al-Din Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 748 AH): ”ثقة فى نفسه، لكنه يدلس عن الكذابين “ He is trustworthy in himself but practiced tadlis with lying narrators.
Reference: (Diwan al-Du'afa, verified by Hammad al-Ansari, p. 50, no. 619)
He is trustworthy in himself, but narrated strange narrations from abandoned and unknown narrators, practiced tadlis in names, and narrated many rare narrations from trustworthy narrators.

The majority of the Imams have authenticated him in those hadiths which he heard directly from trustworthy narrators.
Reference: (Al-Kashif, verified by Muhammad Awamah and others: 273/1, no. 619)
✿ Imam Abu Saeed Salah al-Din Khalil bin Kaikaldy al-Alai, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 761 AH): مشهور به (اى بالتدليس) مكثر له عن الضعفاء يعاني التسوية He was famous for tadlis, practiced tadlis mostly with weak narrators, and also committed tadlis taswiyah.

✿ Imam Hafiz Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 852 AH): ” صدوق كثير التدليس عن الضعفاء“ "He is truthful, but frequently practiced tadlis with weak narrators."

and others. The rest of the narrators did not explicitly mention hearing (sama') in this narration, therefore this chain is weak.
[Benefit] Another defect is mentioned in the chain under discussion, but the writer's research on it is ongoing.
As for the issue of contradiction in the chain, it is as follows:
This narration was transmitted from Thawr bin Yazid, may Allah have mercy on him, by four people:
➊ Umar bin Harun Al-Balkhi
He is a rejected and lying narrator. He has narrated the hadith in three ways:
✿ Marfu‘ from Sayyiduna Ubada bin Samit, may Allah be pleased with him. See:
Reference: (Al-Mu'jam Al-Awsat, verified by Tariq and Abdul Mohsen: 57/1, Hadith: 159)
✿ Marfu‘ from Sayyiduna Abu Imamah Al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him. See:
Reference: (At-Targhib wa At-Tarhib by Al-Asbahani, verified by Ayman bin Saleh bin Sha’ban: 248/1, Hadith: 373)
✿ The third form is coming ahead.
➋ Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Aslami
He is also a rejected and lying narrator.
He narrated this hadith as Mauquf from Sayyiduna Abu Darda, may Allah be pleased with him. See:
Reference: (Al-Um 264/1 Publisher: Dar Al-Ma’rifah - Beirut)
➌ Jarir bin Abdul Hamid Ad-Dabbi
He is a trustworthy narrator. He narrated this hadith as Mauquf from Abu Imamah Al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him.
Then many people narrated it as Mauquf from Jarir Ad-Dabbi, but Umar bin Harun narrated it as Marfu‘ from Mu’adh bin Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, which Imam Dar Qutni, may Allah have mercy on him, declared incorrect. See:
Reference: (Al-‘Ilal Al-Waridah fi Al-Ahadith An-Nabawiyyah, verified by Muhammad bin Saleh: 269/12, Question Number: 2703)
➍ Bishr bin Rafi' Al-Harthi
He is a weak narrator who denies hadith. See:
Reference: (Tahdhib al-Kamal fi Asma' al-Rijal by al-Mizzi, verified by Bashar Awad: 118/4, no: 687)
He has reported this narration as Mauquf (stopped) from Ubada bin Samit, may Allah be pleased with him. See:
Reference: (Al-Talkhis al-Habeer, verified by Dr. Muhammad al-Thani: 1072/3, hadith: 2121)
As for the issue of the hadith being fabricated:
The reason is that the narration under discussion was transmitted from Thawr by both Umar bin Harun al-Balkhi and Baqiyyah bin Walid, but Baqiyyah did not explicitly mention hearing it (sama') from Noor, and Baqiyyah used to conceal narrations from abandoned and lying narrators, as the noble Imams have stated. For this reason, it is highly likely that Baqiyyah heard the narration under discussion from Umar bin Harun himself, then omitted Ibn Harun and narrated directly from Thawr bin Yazid, may Allah have mercy on him.
A similar statement was also made by Allama Albani, may Allah have mercy on him. See:
Reference: (Al-Da'ifah: 11/2, hadith: 521)
Now, a detailed discussion on the narration of Umar bin Harun al-Balkhi is presented:
✿ Imam Abu al-Qasim Ismail bin Ahmad, known as Qiwam al-Sunnah, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 535 AH) says:
[Translation] Our master Abu Amamah al-Bahili, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever stays awake on the nights of the two Eids in a state of faith and with the intention of reward and recompense, his heart will not die when hearts die.

✿ Allama Albani, may Allah have mercy on him: "Fabricated"

and others.[Important Note] Imam Abu al-Abbas Ahmad bin Abu Bakr Al-Busiri, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 840 AH) says under the hadith of Baqiyyah bin Walid:
هذا إسناد ضعيف لتدليس بقية ورواته ثقات لكن لم ينفرد به بقية عن ثور بن يزيد فقد رواه الأصبهاني فى كتاب الترغيب من طريق عمر بن هارون البلخي وهو ضعيف عن ثور به وله شاهد من حديث عبادة بن الصامت رواه الطبراني فى الأوسط والكبير والأصبهاني من حديث معاذ بن جبل فيقوى بمجموع طرقه
"This chain is weak due to the tadlis (concealment) of Baqiyyah bin Walid, and its narrators are trustworthy, but Baqiyyah is not unique in narrating from Thawr; rather, Umar bin Harun Al-Balkhi, who is weak, also narrated from Thawr, whose classification Imam Asbahani, may Allah have mercy on him, made in his book Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib. The narration of Ubada bin Samit, may Allah be pleased with him, is a witness to this, which Imam Al-Tabarani, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated in Al-Mu'jam Al-Awsat and Al-Mu'jam Al-Kabir, and the narration of Mu'adh bin Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, is also a witness, which Imam Asbahani, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated. Therefore, due to the combination of its routes, it becomes strong."
Reference: (Misbah al-Zujajah fi Zawa'id Ibn Majah, edited by Muhammad Al-Muntaqa Al-Kashnawi: 85/2, Hadith: 644)
The writer respectfully states:
✿ Umar bin Harun Al-Balkhi is unique in narrating this hadith, not Baqiyyah; Baqiyyah committed tadlis in this narration.
✿ Umar bin Harun Al-Balkhi is not weak but a neglected and lying narrator.
✿ The narration of Ubada bin Samit, may Allah be pleased with him, is fabricated. Therefore, it does not have the capability to be a witness. Also, to the best of my knowledge, Imam Al-Tabarani, may Allah have mercy on him, has not narrated it in Al-Mu'jam Al-Kabir. And Allah knows best.
✿ The narration of Mu'adh bin Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, also does not have the capability to be a witness because its chain is very weak and disconnected as detailed earlier. Therefore, the narration under discussion is not strong.
Imam Muhammad bin Muflih Al-Maqdisi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 763 AH) says: ” رواية بقية عن أهل بلده جيدة، وهو حديث حسن إن شاء الله تعالى “ Baqiyyah's narration from his townsmen is good and this hadith, God willing, is Hasan (good).
Reference: (Kitab Al-Furu' edited by Abdullah Al-Turki: 408/2)
The writer respectfully states that this ruling is not correct as the details have already passed in the previous lines.
⑥ Narration of Sayyiduna Ubada bin As-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him)
✿ Imam Abu al-Qasim Sulayman bin Ahmad al-Tabarani, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 360 AH), says:
[Translation] It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubada bin Asamit, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever prays on both nights of the two Eids, then on the day when hearts will die, his heart will not die.
(Imam al-Tabarani, may Allah have mercy on him, says

(This hadith is fabricated and its chain is confused).
✿ Imam Hafiz Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 852 AH): ”هذا حديث غريب مضطرب الاسناد و عمرو بن هارون ضعيف وقد خولف فى صحابيه وفي رفعه“ "This hadith is strange and its chain is confused. Umar bin Harun is weak, and there is disagreement about the companion in this hadith and its marfu' (raised) status."
Reference: (Al-Futuhat al-Rabbaniyyah, edited by Abdul Munim Khalil: 164/4)
✿ Allama Al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him: "Fabricated"
Reference: (Ad-Da'ifah: 11/2, Hadith: 520)
[Reason] In this narration, ” عمر بن هارون بن يزيد بن جابر الثقفي “ is present, who is a rejected and liar narrator as the statements of the noble scholars have already passed regarding him.
The details of the confusion have been mentioned on previous pages.
[Note] In Al-Futuhat al-Rabbaniyyah, it is written as Amr bin Harun, which is incorrect; the correct name is Umar bin Harun.
⑦ Narration of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them
Imam Abu al-Faraj Abdul Rahman bin Ali al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 597 AH), says:
[Translation] Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The night of Eid al-Adha is equal to the night of Laylat al-Qadr.
[Source]
Reference: (Mutheer al-Azm al-Sakin ila Ashraf al-Amakin bi Tahqiq Marzuq Ali: 274/1, Hadith: 157 and the wording is his, and Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib by Al-Asbahani with verification by Ayman bin Saleh bin Sha’ban: 246/1 Hadith: 369)
[Hadith Status] Its chain is weak (its chain is obscure).
[Reason for Weakness] In the chain of this narration, there are three narrators whose biographies I could not find:
● Uthman bin Harun
● Abu Umar wal-Qanad
● Ibn Abi Umar Al-Makki
[Benefit] The narration under discussion is mentioned in Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib by Al-Asbahani, may Allah have mercy on him, with the same chain as follows: ”كل يوم من أيام العشر يعدل صومه صوم سنة ، وعرفة سنتين، وعاشوراء سنة، وليلة جمع تعدل بليلة القدر “ "Fasting every day of the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah is equivalent to fasting for a year, the fast of Arafah is equivalent to fasting for two years, the fast of Ashura is equivalent to fasting for a year, and the night of Muzdalifah (i.e., the night of Eid al-Adha) is equal to the night of Laylat al-Qadr."
⟐ Now a few points are presented as a warning:
[Warning No: 1] In Muthir al-Azm: ”ثنا أبو عمرو القناد، قال: ثنا ابن أبى عمر المكي“ is mentioned, whereas in Al-Targhib by Al-Asbahani: ”ثنا حفص بن عمر القتاد، ثنا يونس بن أبى عمرة المكي “ is mentioned. Which of the two is correct? I do not know.
[Warning No: 2] The investigator of Muthir al-Azm says about the discussed narration: ”لم أقف على هذا الحديث بعد تتبع وهو على اى حال مرسل “ Even after research, I could not become familiar with this hadith; in any case, this hadith is mursal.
The writer respectfully states that this narration is not mursal because 'Ata' refers to Ata ibn Abi Rabah, may Allah have mercy on him, as mentioned in Al-Targhib by Al-Asbahani, and not Ata Al-Khurasani, may Allah preserve him, as the investigator understood and therefore called it mursal.
◈ There is also a supporting narration for this hadith but it is also insignificant:
The detailed explanation is presented:
Imam Abu Isa Muhammad bin Isa al-Tirmidhi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 279 AH), says:
[Translation] It is narrated from our master Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no day more beloved to Allah for worship than the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. Fasting every day of the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah is equivalent to fasting for a year, and standing in prayer every night of it is equivalent to standing in prayer on the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr). Therefore, frequently recite tasbih, tahleel, and remembrance of Allah.

◈ Uthman bin Abdullah followed Ibn Qayyim, but he is also insignificant.
The detailed explanation is presented as follows:
✿ Imam Abu al-Qasim Ismail bin Ahmad, known as Qawwam al-Sunnah, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 535 AH) says:
[Translation] Our master Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The most beloved deeds to Allah are those performed in the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. The writer respectfully submits that the Al-Targhib by Al-Asbahani available to us does not narrate the discussed narration in the mentioned manner, and Allah knows best. Anyway! Neither of the two chains is beneficial for the hadith because both chains are very weak.
[Benefit] The first part of the hadith and the phrase containing ”فأكثروا فيهن“ are authentic due to the following hadiths.
Our master Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with both of them, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ”ما من أيام العمل الصالح فيها أحب إلى الله من هذه الأيام يعني أيام العشر قالوا: يا رسول الله، ولا الجهاد فى سبيل الله؟ قال: ولا الجهاد فى سبيل الله إلا رجل خرج بنفسه وماله، فلم يرجع من ذلك بشيء“ "Allah Almighty does not love any good deed on any day as much as He loves it on these days, meaning the first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. He said: Not even Jihad in the way of Allah, except that a person goes out with his life and wealth and does not return with anything."

⑦ Narration of Sayyid Na Talha bin Ubaidullah
✿ Imam Jalal al-Din Abdul Rahman bin Abi Bakr al-Suyuti, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 911 AH), writes:
[Translation] It is narrated from our master Talha bin Ubaidullah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The night of Eid al-Fitr is a night of mercy; Allah Almighty frees people from Hellfire on this night. Whoever performs two prostrations on this night will receive the reward equivalent to the fasting of Ramadan for the young and old, men and women (all). And on the day of Eid al-Fitr, those who come to the Eid prayer ground from the east to the west will receive a reward equal to theirs.

(This hadith is fabricated and its chain is weak).
[Reason] In the chain of this narration, there are two narrators whose biographies I could not find:
● Muhammad bin Ali bin al-Rabi'
● Ata bin Muhammad
[Benefit] Regarding Ata bin Muhammad in the chain of this narration, if it refers to Ata bin Muhammad al-Hijri, then:
✿ Imam Abu Ahmad bin Uday al-Jurjani, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 366 AH), writes:
”سمعت ابن حماد يقول : قال البخاري عطاء بن محمد الهجري، عن أبيه لم يصح حديثه وعطاء بن محمد هذا ليس بمعروف“
"I heard Imam Ibn Hammad al-Dulabi, may Allah have mercy on him, say that Imam al-Bukhari, may Allah have mercy on him, said that he narrated from his father that this hadith is not authentic. And this Ata bin Muhammad is not well-known."
Reference: (Al-Kamil fi Dhu'afa' al-Rijal, edited by Adel Ahmad and colleagues: 80/7, Edition: 1525)
If this is not al-Hijri, then I could not find his biography.
[Note] Imam Nur al-Din Ali bin Muhammad, known as Ibn Iraq, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 963 AH), says: ”وفيه محمد بن عطاء و محمد بن على بن الربيع لم أعرفهما و الله تعالى أعلم“ In this, Muhammad bin Ata and Muhammad bin Ali are two narrators whom I do not know. And Allah knows best.
The writer respectfully states that in the chain it is not Muhammad bin Ata but Ata bin Muhammad.
⑧ Narration of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)
✿ Imam Abu al-Faraj Abd al-Rahman ibn Ali al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died 597 AH), says:
[Translation] Our master Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: By the One in whose hand is my soul, Gabriel, peace be upon him, informed me through Israfil that Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, narrates that whoever prays one hundred (100) rak'ahs on the day of Eid al-Fitr, reciting Surah Al-Fatiha once and Surah Al-Ikhlas ten (10) times in each rak'ah, and in his bowing and prostration recites this supplication ten (10) times: ”سبحان الله والحمد لله ولا إله إلا الله والله أكبر“, then when he finishes his prayer, he seeks forgiveness one hundred (100) times, then goes into prostration and says: O Ever-Living, O Eternal! O Possessor of Majesty and Honor! O Most Merciful in this world and the Hereafter! O Most Merciful of the merciful! O Lord of the first and the last! Forgive my sins, accept my fast and my prayer. By the One who sent me with the truth, he will not raise his head from the prostration until Allah forgives him, accepts his month of Ramadan, pardons his sins, even if he has committed seventy sins, each sin greater than the entire fire of Hell, and accepts Ramadan from his city dwellers as well.
I said: O Gabriel, peace be upon him! Will it be accepted specifically for him and generally for all the people of his city? He said: By the One who sent me with the truth! Whoever prays like this and then seeks forgiveness like this, Allah accepts his prayer and his fast because Allah says in His Book: "Ask your Lord for forgiveness; indeed, He is ever Forgiving." Then He said: "Repent to Him; He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term." And He said: "Ask forgiveness of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." And He said: "Ask forgiveness of Him; indeed, He is the Accepting of repentance." And the Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, said: This is for the men and women of my Ummah; those who came before me were not given this (prayer).

(This hadith is undoubtedly fabricated).
✿ Imam Abu al-Faraj Abd al-Rahman ibn Ali al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died 597 AH):
”هذا حديث لا نشك فى وضعه، وفيه جماعة لا يعرفون أصلا“
"We have no doubt about the fabrication of this hadith, and there is a group in it who are completely unknown."
✿ Imam Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him (died 748 AH):
”رواه أبو الفتح [القواس] ، ثنا عمر بن محمد الصباح، ثنا يحيى بن قاسم، ثنا محمد بن أبى صالح، عن (سعد بن سعد) ، فلا أدري من وضعه منهم“
"This hadith was narrated by Abu al-Fath from Umar ibn Muhammad al-Sabah, from Yahya ibn al-Qasim, from Muhammad ibn Abi Salih, from Sa'd ibn Sa'd. And I do not know which of them fabricated this hadith."
✿ Imam Jalal al-Din Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr al-Suyuti, may Allah have mercy on him (died 911 AH):
”موضوع فيه جماعة لا يعرفون“ "This hadith is fabricated; there is a group in it who are unknown."
Reference: (Al-Lali al-Masnu'ah fi al-Ahadith al-Mawdu'ah, verified by Salah ibn Muhammad: 51/2)
✿ Imam Muhammad ibn Ali al-Shawkani, may Allah have mercy on him (died 1250 AH):
”هو موضوع ورواته مجاهيل“ "The hadith is fabricated and its narrators are unknown."
Reference: (Al-Fawa'id al-Majmu'ah fi al-Ahadith al-Mawdu'ah, verified by al-Ma'limi, p. 52, hadith 107)
[Reason for fabrication] In the chain of this narration, there are many narrators who are unknown, as the noble imams have said:
● Abu al-Fath Yusuf ibn Umar ibn Masruq al-Qawwas
● Umar ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabah al-Bazzaz
● Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn al-Qasim
● Muhammad ibn Abi Salih
All of these are unknown narrators.
◈ Now a few points are presented as a warning:
[Note 1] In Al-Aali Al-Masnu'ah by Al-Suyuti: ”عن أبى ظبية ، عن“ is written which is not correct; rather it is ”عن أبى طيبة ، عن“.
[Note 2] In Al-Aali Al-Masnu'ah by Al-Suyuti: ”محمد بن أبى صالح، عن سعد بن سعد“ is written and in Al-Mawdu'at: ”سعيد بن سعيد“ is written.
The writer respectfully suggests that perhaps both are written incorrectly; the correct name is Sa'd bin Sa'id (Al-Jurjani) because Imam Al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him, said in the biography of Abu Tayyib Isa bin Sulayman Al-Jurjani, may Allah have mercy on him: ”وعنه : ابناه أحمد وعبد الواسع، وسعد بن سعيد، وغيرهم“.
Reference: (Tarikh Al-Islam wa Wafayat Al-Mashahir wal-A'lam, edited by Bashar Awad: 262/4, no: 458)
This statement of Imam Al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him, is clearly confirmed by Al-Kamil by Ibn 'Adi
Reference: (edited by Adel Ahmad and colleagues: 453/6, no: 1403)
And he is not an unknown narrator but a well-known narrator, a righteous man but the author of Al-Ghara'ib. For his biography see:
Reference: (Al-Kamil fi Du'afa' Al-Rijal, edited by Adel Ahmad and colleagues: 396/4, no: 800)
and others.[Note 3] There are two differences between the texts of Al-Mawdu'at and Al-Aali Al-Masnu'ah.
The writer respectfully suggests that which one is correct can only be decided by consulting the manuscript of Al-Mawdu'at, and currently I do not have access to its manuscript.
● Second difference: In Al-Mawdu'at by Ibn Al-Jawzi, at the end of the hadith it is written: ”
The writer respectfully suggests that this is perhaps not correct; the correct wording as is clear from the context is in Al-Aali Al-Masnu'ah and it is: ”لم يعطها من كان قبلي“.
This is what I have adopted in the text.
⑨ Narration of Sayyida Aisha bint Abi Bakr, may Allah be pleased with her

Reference: (Lisan al-Mizan with verification by Abi Ghuddah: 582/1 T: 715)
From this, it is understood that in the chain in Zahr al-Firdous, Muhammad al-Wasiti has been omitted between Ibn Ka'b al-Wasiti and Ibn Ma'n.
[Note No: 2] In Matheer al-Azm: ”ثنا سعيد بن عيسى عن معن“ and in Zahr al-Firdous: ”سعيد بن عبده ابن معن“.
The writer respectfully submits that both are not correct; the correct is: ”ثنا سعيد بن عيسي ابن معن“ because Ma'n is the grandfather of Sa'id and 'Isa is his father. To the best of my knowledge, no hadith scholar has mentioned his father's name as 'Abdah'. Narrators have sometimes said Sa'id ibn Ma'n or Sa'id ibn Ma'n al-Madani. See:

② Narration of Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda
✿ Imam Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Idris Al-Shafi'i Al-Qurashi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 204 AH) says: ”أخبرنا إبراهيم بن محمد، قال : أخبرنا ثور بن يزيد، عن خالد بن معدان، عن أبى الدرداء قال : من قام ليلة العيد محتسبا ، لم يمت قلبه حين تموت القلوب“.

(This hadith is undoubtedly fabricated and its chain is disconnected).
[Reason] There are two defects in the chain of this narration:
➊ إبراهيم بن محمد بن أبى يحيي - واسمه سمعان - الأسلمي: This narrator is abandoned and a liar. The statements of the noble Imams about him have already been mentioned.
➋ Khalid bin Ma'dan, may Allah have mercy on him, did not hear from Abu Al-Darda, may Allah be pleased with him.
The statements of the noble Imams are presented:
✿ Imam Abu Abdullah Ahmad bin Hanbal, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 241 AH): ”أما خالد بن معدان فلم يسمع منه يعني من أبى الدرداء“ "Khalid bin Ma'dan, may Allah have mercy on him, did not hear from Abu Al-Darda, may Allah be pleased with him."
Reference: (Al-Marasil verified by Shukr Allah Ni'mat Allah p. 52, no. 71 and its chain is authentic)
✿ Imam Abu Al-Hajjaj Yusuf bin Abdul Rahman Al-Mizzi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 742 AH): ”لم يذكر سماعا منه“ "Khalid did not explicitly hear from Abu Al-Darda, may Allah be pleased with him."
Reference: (Tahdhib Al-Kamal fi Asma' Al-Rijal by Al-Mizzi verified by Bashar Awad: 168/8, no. 1653)
✿ Imam Shams Al-Din Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 748 AH): ”وأرسل عن : معاذ بن جبل ، وأبي الدرداء، وعائشة وغيرهم“ "Khalid, may Allah have mercy on him, narrated from Mu'adh bin Jabal, Abu Al-Darda, Aisha, may Allah be pleased with them, and others with an interrupted chain."
Reference: (Siyar A'lam Al-Nubala verified by a group of researchers: 537/4 no. 216)
⟐ Now a few points are presented as a warning:
[Warning Number: 1] Ibrahim Al-Aslami Al-Kadhdhab says: ”رأيت مشيخة من خيار أهل المدينة يظهرون على مسجد النبى - صلى الله عليه وسلم - ليلة العيد فيدعون ويذكرون الله حتى تنضي ساعة من الليل“ "I saw some good elders of the people of Madinah who used to come to the Prophet's Mosque on the night of Eid and supplicate and remember Allah until part of the night passed."
The writer respectfully states:
➊ Who are those few elders? They have not been identified.
➋ No act of worship is established from the practice of the Tabi‘in.
➌ The practice of the Tabi‘in is not a proof.
➍ The one who narrated this is a liar, therefore his statement is not to be trusted.
[Warning Number: 2] Imam Shafi‘i, may Allah have mercy on him, says: ”وبلغنا أنه كان يقال : إن الدعاء يستجاب فى خمس ليال فى ليلة الجمعة، وليلة الأضحى، وليلة الفطر، وأول ليلة من رجب، وليلة النصف من شعبان“ "It has reached us that it is said that supplication is accepted on five nights:
(1) The night of Friday. (2) The night of Eid al-Adha. (3) The night of Eid al-Fitr. (4) The first night of Rajab. (5) The night of mid-Sha‘ban."
The writer respectfully states that this is not established from the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, nor from any of the Companions. Therefore, this statement is not to be considered.
[Warning Number: 3] Imam Shafi‘i, may Allah have mercy on him, says: ”وبلغنا أن ابن عمر كان يحيي ليلة جمع“ "It has reached us that Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, used to stay awake (i.e., worship) on the night of Eid al-Adha."
The writer respectfully states that — to the best of my knowledge — this is not established from Ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him. Therefore, it cannot be taken as proof.
[Warning Number: 4] Imam Shafi‘i, may Allah have mercy on him, says: ”وأنا أستحب كل ما حكيت فى هذه الليالي من غير أن يكون فرضا“ "Regarding those nights which have been mentioned, I consider them recommended (mustahabb), but they are not obligatory."
The writer respectfully states that the things Imam Shafi‘i considered were based on unreliable and unestablished matters, therefore his statement about them being recommended is not correct. May Allah have mercy on him and fill his grave with light. Ameen.
Summary: Special worship on the nights of the two Eids is not established from any of the Companions. All the narrations related to this are fabricated.
◈Narration of Hazrat Khalid bin Ma'dan, may Allah have mercy on him
✿ Imam Abu Muhammad Al-Hasan bin Muhammad Al-Baghdadi Al-Khallal, may Allah have mercy on him (died: 439 AH) says:
[Translation] Honorable Khalid bin Ma'dan, may Allah have mercy on him, says that there are five nights in the year, whoever consistently worships on them with the hope of reward and confirmation of the promise, Allah Almighty will admit him to Paradise:
➊ He prays during the night of the first of Rajab and fasts during its day.
➋ He prays during the night of the middle of Sha'ban and fasts during its day.
➌ He prays during the night of Eid al-Fitr and fasts during its day.
➍ He prays during the night of Eid al-Adha and fasts during its day.
➎ He prays during the night of Ashura and fasts during its day.

When the night of Eid al-Fitr comes, which is called Laylat al-Jaiza (the night of reward), and when the morning of Eid arrives, Allah sends angels to all the cities; they descend to the earth and stand in all the alleys and at the ends of the roads, and they call out, their voices are heard by all creatures except jinn and humans. ➎ Discontinuity: Dhahak, may Allah have mercy on him, did not hear from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both. The statements of the noble scholars regarding this have already been mentioned.
A narration attributed to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas رضي الله عنهما states that the day of Eid al-Fitr is called "Yawm al-Jawa'iz" (the Day of Rewards), but it is also unreliable.
The details are as follows:
✿ Imam Abu Muhammad Abdul Aziz bin Ahmad al-Kattani al-Dimashqi رحمه الله (d. 597 AH) says:
[Translation] Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas رضي الله عنهما said: The day of Fitr is the Day of Rewards. When people proceed towards the Eid ground, their rewards are given to them.

(This hadith is mursal and its chain is very weak).
[Reason for weakness] There are two defects in the chain of this narration.
➊ أبو على محمد بن القاسم الدمشقي : He narrated from Ahmad bin Ali al-Marwazi رحمه الله in most of his books, and he is accused in them.
The statements of the Imams are as follows:
✿ Imam Abu Muhammad Abdul Aziz bin Ahmad al-Kattani al-Dimashqi رحمه الله (d. 597 AH): ”حدث عن أبى بكر أحمد بن على بن سعيد القاضي المروزي بأكثر كتبه اتهم فى ذلك ، وذكر أن أكثرها إجازة“ "He narrated from Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Ali al-Marwazi رحمه الله in most of his books, and he is accused in them, and it is mentioned that most of it is permission."
Reference: (Tarikh Dimashq by Ibn Asakir, edited by Amr bin Gharamah al-Amrawi: 104/55, hadith no. 6915)
✿ Imam Shams al-Din Muhammad bin Ahmad al-Dhahabi رحمه الله (d. 748 AH): ”له جزء سمعناه وقد اتهم فى إكثاره، عن أبى بكر أحمد بن علي“ "Regarding the part that is from Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Ali, we have heard that in most of his hadiths he is accused."
Reference: (Mizan al-I'tidal, edited by al-Bajawi: 14/4, hadith no. 8076)
The writer could not find its translation.
The editor of Musalsal al-Eidayn - حفظه الله says: ”لم اقف عليه“ "I was not able to become familiar with it."
[Note] Sheikh Magdy حفظه الله has called the narration under discussion mursal. I could not understand the reason for this. I feel that perhaps the Sheikh was mistaken.
