✦ Fourth Ḥadīth:

Narrated by ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him):

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to supervise His sacrificial camels, and to give away their meat, skins, and coverings in charity. He also instructed me not to give the butcher anything from them. ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'We used to give him something from our own wealth.'"

✦ Explanation of Vocabulary:

أَجِلَّة – Plural of jull, referring to coverings or saddles made from cloth or ropes that are placed on the backs of camels.

جُلُود – Plural of jild (skin), referring here to hides or animal skins.

الجَزَّار – The butcher, a professional who slaughters animals.

✦ Explanation of the Ḥadīth:

Imām Nawawī (may Allah have mercy on him) states that it is impermissible to sell the skin or any part of sacrificial animals, whether the sacrifice is obligatory or voluntary. However, there is a slight concession in voluntary sacrifices whereby such items may be used for personal purposes such as making clothes or other items.
