① Sayyidah Zaynab (رضي الله عنها), daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, was married to Abu al-‘As (رضي الله عنه) who was not a Hashimi.
② Two daughters of the Prophet ﷺ, Ruqayyah and Umm Kulthum (رضي الله عنهما), were married to Uthman ibn Affan (رضي الله عنه) — not a Hashimi.
③ Umm Kulthum bint ‘Ali (رضي الله عنها), granddaughter of the Prophet ﷺ, was married to ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) — a non-Hashimi.

Sahih Muslim: 1416 | Sunan al-Nasa’i: 3339
Harms of Nikah Shighar:
① Emotional retaliation in case of conflict between either couple.
② Absence of proper Mahr — a practice of the age of ignorance.
③ Even if Mahr is specified, it often doesn't eliminate the retaliatory nature of such arrangements.
Sahih Muslim: 3468

◈ Clarifying Misconceptions: Marriage Between Hashimis and Non-Hashimis
Some people falsely claim that a Hashimi woman cannot marry a non-Hashimi man. This is incorrect based on:① Sayyidah Zaynab (رضي الله عنها), daughter of the Prophet ﷺ, was married to Abu al-‘As (رضي الله عنه) who was not a Hashimi.
④ The Prophet ﷺ married his cousin Zaynab bint Jahsh (رضي الله عنها) to Zayd ibn Harithah (رضي الله عنه), a freed slave — as recorded in Surah al-Ahzab.
⑤ ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn (Zayn al-‘Abidin) married Shaharbanu, a non-Hashimi woman.
◈ Types of Nikah
✔ 1. Nikah al-Masnun (Prescribed Marriage):
A marriage performed under a guardian with the intention of lifelong companionship.✖ 2. Nikah Shighar (Exchange Marriage / Wata Sata):
A man marries off his daughter or sister on the condition that the other man does the same, often without specifying Mahr. This is haram (forbidden).① Emotional retaliation in case of conflict between either couple.
② Absence of proper Mahr — a practice of the age of ignorance.
③ Even if Mahr is specified, it often doesn't eliminate the retaliatory nature of such arrangements.
