Written by: Imran Ayyub Lahori
One of the established Sunnah practices in Islamic burial is to place the deceased in the grave on their right side, facing the Qiblah. This method has been consistently followed throughout Islamic history and is unanimously accepted by scholars.
The deceased should be placed on the right side (ʿalā janbihi al-ayman) and facing the Qiblah.
✔ Imām al-Shawkānī رحمه الله said:
“This is such a well-known and recognized act in Islamic Sharīʿah that it requires no evidence.”
(Al-Sabil al-Jarrār: 1/362)
✔ Shaykh Ṣiddīq Ḥasan Khān رحمه الله stated:
“There is no difference of opinion on this matter.”

(Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz, p. 192)
It is Sunnah and unanimously accepted to place the deceased:
◉ On their right side
◉ Facing the Qiblah
This practice is firmly rooted in the way of the Prophet ﷺ, the companions, and the consistent tradition of the Ummah.
