Islamic Ruling on Wiping Over Socks and Gloves

Is it permissible to wipe over gloves and socks during ablution?


❖ Answer by Shaykh Abdul Wakeel Nasir ḥafiẓahullāh:​


Wiping Over Socks:


Wiping over socks is permissible.
This practice is established through the traditions of the Companions, and its permissibility is endorsed in Islamic law.


Wiping Over Gloves:


There is no Shar‘i evidence or legal basis for wiping over gloves.
However, if someone has an injury on the hand and has wrapped it with a bandage for protection, then it is permissible to wipe over the bandage.

Wiping over socks is allowed.
Wiping over gloves is only permitted in specific circumstances, such as an injury or wound.
