Source: Fatāwā Ameenpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Ameenpuri
✿ Question:
What is the ruling regarding the slaughtered meat of Ahl al-Kitab (Jews and Christians)?
✿ Answer:
The slaughter of Ahl al-Kitab (Jews and Christians) is halal. The Qur’an, Hadith, consensus of the Ummah, and continuous practice (tawātur) all affirm this ruling.
◈ Statement of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) (728H):
إن حل ذبائحهم ونسائهم ثبت بالكتاب والسنة والإجماع ما زال المسلمون فى كل عصر ومصر يأكلون ذبائحهم فمن أنكر ذلك فقد خالف إجماع المسلمين .
Translation:
The permissibility of their slaughtered animals and their women is established by the Qur’an, Sunnah, and consensus. In every era and every land, Muslims have eaten their slaughtered animals. Whoever denies this has opposed the consensus of Muslims.
(Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā 35/232)
The meat of animals slaughtered by the Jews and Christians (Ahl al-Kitab) is halal for Muslims by Qur’an, Sunnah, and Ijmāʿ, and this has been the continuous practice of the Ummah throughout history.
