Question
Is singing, playing music, and related customs considered shirk and bidʿah, according to Qur’an and Hadith?
Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ʿammā baʿd!
◄ Singing and playing musical instruments are ḥarām (forbidden) in Islam.
◄ However, these acts are not the same as shirk (associating partners with Allah) or bidʿah (innovation in religion). Rather, they fall under the category of sinful and unlawful actions.
- Singing and music are haram.
- They are not shirk or bidʿah in themselves, but remain prohibited due to their corrupting influence.
