Is it permissible for a boy or girl from the Ahl al-Ḥadīth background to marry a boy or girl from the Deobandi or Barelvi background?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
Allah ﷻ clearly commands in the Qurʾān:
﴿وَلَا تَنكِحُواْ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكَٰتِ حَتَّىٰ يُؤۡمِنَّۚ﴾ (al-Baqarah: 221)
“Do not marry polytheist women until they believe.”
And Allah ﷻ also says:
﴿وَلَا تُمۡسِكُواْ بِعِصَمِ ٱلۡكَوَافِرِ﴾ (al-Mumtaḥanah: 10)
“And do not hold on to the marriage bonds of disbelieving women.”
However, a believing Muslim man is permitted to marry a chaste woman from the People of the Book, as stated in the Qurʾān:
﴿وَٱلۡمُحۡصَنَٰتُ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبۡلِكُمۡ﴾ (al-Māʾidah: 5)
“And [permissible for you are] chaste women from those who were given the Book before you.”
If both parties are believers, free from shirk and kufr, and the differences are only sectarian (madhhabī), then nikāḥ is permissible as long as their beliefs remain within the boundaries of Islam.
But if any of them holds beliefs of shirk or kufr—regardless of whether they call themselves Ahl al-Ḥadīth, Deobandi, or Barelvi—then marriage with them is not permissible.

Question:
Is it permissible for a boy or girl from the Ahl al-Ḥadīth background to marry a boy or girl from the Deobandi or Barelvi background?
Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
- If a boy or girl is a mushrik (polytheist) or kāfir (disbeliever), then regardless of whether they call themselves Ahl al-Ḥadīth, Deobandi, Barelvi, or anything else, their nikāḥ with a believing Muslim man or woman is not valid.
Allah ﷻ clearly commands in the Qurʾān:
﴿وَلَا تَنكِحُواْ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكَٰتِ حَتَّىٰ يُؤۡمِنَّۚ﴾ (al-Baqarah: 221)
“Do not marry polytheist women until they believe.”

“And [permissible for you are] chaste women from those who were given the Book before you.”
Conclusion:
If both parties are believers, free from shirk and kufr, and the differences are only sectarian (madhhabī), then nikāḥ is permissible as long as their beliefs remain within the boundaries of Islam.
But if any of them holds beliefs of shirk or kufr—regardless of whether they call themselves Ahl al-Ḥadīth, Deobandi, or Barelvi—then marriage with them is not permissible.
