Ruling on Hunting with a Mi‘rāḍ (Broad-Tipped Arrow or Stick)
Written by: Imran Ayub Lahori
A mi‘rāḍ is an arrow without a sharp metal head or a stick whose ends are shaped like a blade.
The Companions asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about hunting with a mi‘rāḍ, and he said:
كل ما خزق وما أصاب بعرضه فلا تأكل
“Whatever it pierces (with its point), eat it; but whatever it strikes with its broad side, do not eat it.”
[Bukhari 5477, Book of Slaughtering and Hunting: Chapter on What the Mi‘rāḍ Strikes with Its Broad Side; Muslim 1929]
