Sharʿi Ruling on Gold Teeth: Guidance for Men and Women
(Source: Fatawa Arkan al-Islam)
What is the Islamic ruling on getting gold teeth?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
◈ It is not permissible for men to get gold teeth without necessity.
◈ In Shariah, wearing gold or using it as adornment is ḥarām for men.
◈ Therefore, unless there is a valid medical need, men should avoid it.
◈ If it is customary among women to use gold teeth as an adornment, then it is permissible for them.
◈ This involves neither any Sharʿi prohibition nor the wastefulness (isrāf) forbidden in Islam.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
«اُحِلَّ الذَّهَبُ وَالْحَرِيْرُ لاِنَاثِ اُمَّتِیْ»
(Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī 1720; Sunan al-Nasāʾī 5151)
Translation:
"Gold and silk have been made lawful for the women of my Ummah."
◈ If a man or woman dies with a gold tooth fitted out of necessity, it should be removed.
◈ Exception: If removing it would cause mutilation (such as tearing the gums), then it should be left in place.
◈ Gold is considered property, and after death, it becomes the right of the heirs.
◈ Burying the deceased with it causes wastage of wealth, which is disliked in Shariah.
