❖ Ruling on Eating Snakes and Scorpions
Source: Fatawa Amun Puri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amun Puri
❀ Question:
What is the ruling on eating snakes and scorpions?
❀ Answer:
Snakes and scorpions are haram, and eating them is not permissible. Moreover, knowingly considering them halal is disbelief (kufr).
❀ Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله (d. 728H) said:
أكل الخبائث وأكل الحيات والعقارب حرام بإجماع المسلمين، فمن أكلها مستحلا لذلك فإنه يستتاب فإن تاب وإلا قتل، ومن اعتقد التحريم وأكلها فإنه فاسق عاص لله ورسوله
“Eating impure things, snakes, and scorpions is haram by the consensus of Muslims. Whoever eats them considering it lawful should be asked to repent; if he repents, it is accepted, otherwise he is to be killed (for apostasy). Whoever eats them acknowledging their prohibition is a sinner, disobedient to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.”
