Islamic Ruling on Cursing or Reviling Inanimate Objects

Is It Permissible to Curse or Revile Inanimate Objects?

Taken from: Fatāwā Amanpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amanpuri

❖ Question:

Is it permissible to speak ill of or curse inanimate objects?

❖ Answer:

It is not permissible to curse or revile any object without reason.

The Prophet ﷺ forbade cursing the wind.
(Musnad ‘Abd ibn Humayd: 167; ‘Amal al-Yawm wal-Laylah an-Nasa’i: 937 – Authentic chain)

A woman once cursed fever, upon which the Prophet ﷺ said:
لا تسبي الحمى، فإنها تذهب خطايا بني آدم، كما يذهب الكير خبث الحديد
“Do not revile fever, for it removes the sins of the children of Adam just as a furnace removes the impurities of iron.”
(Sahih Muslim: 2575)
