Islamic Ruling on Attending Non-Muslim Funerals

Author: Dr. Muhammad Zia-ur-Rahman Al-Azmi رحمه الله

❖ Attending Their Funerals

If a non-Muslim funeral includes prohibited acts, such as:

  • Blowing of horns,
  • Lighting of fire, or
  • Carrying of crosses,

then it is not permissible to attend such a funeral.

✔ If No Prohibited Acts Are Present

If the funeral does not involve any forbidden elements, then one must consider whether attending it serves any beneficial purpose (maṣlaḥah). If there is a valid reason or benefit, attendance may be allowed.

And Allah knows best.
