Islamic Guidelines on Selling Sick Goats with Full Disclosure

❖ Islamic Ruling on Buying and Selling Sick Goats ❖

Trade of Sick Goats in Islamic Law

Buying and selling is a transaction that Allah ﷻ has permitted for His servants. It plays a vital role in fulfilling human needs and interests. However, such transactions must be conducted with truthfulness, honesty, and goodwill.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

«البيعان بالخيار مالم يتفرقا، فإن صدقا، و بينا بورك لهما فى بيعهما، وإن كتما و كذبا محقت بركة بيعهما»
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Hadith No. 2079; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1532/47]

"The buyer and the seller have the option as long as they do not separate. If they speak the truth and clarify everything, their transaction will be blessed. But if they lie and conceal, the blessing of their sale will be erased."

Likewise, the Prophet ﷺ said:

«من غش فليس منا»
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 102/164]

"Whoever deceives is not one of us."

And he ﷺ further stated:

"Do not artificially raise prices, and let not one man sell over his brother's sale, nor propose over his brother’s engagement."
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Hadith No. 2140; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1413/51]

There are numerous Ahadith that reinforce this principle. When selling an item that has a defect, it is obligatory to disclose the defect to the buyer. It is not permissible to conceal it or to lie about it.

Thus, if you are selling sick goats, it is mandatory to inform the buyer of their illness and make it explicitly clear that the animals are diseased. This ensures that the transaction is based on truthfulness and integrity.

وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ

[Al-Fawzān: Al-Muntaqā: 55]
