Importance of Cleaning Hands After Eating

Ibn ʿAbbās (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
من بات وفي يده ريح غمر فأصابه شيئ فلا يلومن إلا نفسه
"Whoever spends the night while there is the smell of grease on his hands, and then something harms him (such as an insect bite), let him blame no one but himself."
📚 Sahih al-Silsilah al-Sahihah: 2956; Sahih al-Targhīb: 2168; al-Bazzār in Kashf al-Astār: 2886

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
من نام وفي يده غمر ولم يغسله فأصابه شيئ فلا يلومن إلا نفسه
"Whoever sleeps with grease on his hands and does not wash it off, and then something harms him, let him blame no one but himself."
📚 Sahih al-Targhīb: 2166; Abu Dawood: 3852; Tirmidhi: 1860; Ibn Mājah: 3297; Ibn Ḥibbān in his Sahih: 5521

Conclusion

From these ahadith, it is clear that after eating, if there are food particles, oil, or grease on one’s hands, they should be thoroughly cleaned. If a person fails to do so and is then harmed (for example, bitten by an insect), it will be the result of their own negligence.
