❖ Question
If someone says: “I love this girl, and I will marry her,” is this permissible?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu waṣ-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
If a man has love for a girl and wishes to marry her, then the Sharʿi and permissible way is:
◈ He should personally, or through his father/guardian, approach the girl’s walī regarding this matter.
◈ If the girl’s walī agrees to the proposal, and the girl herself also consents, then such a marriage is valid and entirely free from objection.
◈ However, if the walī does not agree, or the girl herself is not willing, then in such a case:
❀ Expressing love for her,
❀ Communicating and conversing with her,
❀ Or maintaining any relationship with her — is prohibited in Sharīʿah.
