✿ Proper Manner of Responding to a Sneeze

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه):
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When any one of you sneezes, he should say: Al-ḥamdu lillāh (All praise is due to Allah), and his brother or companion should say to him: Yarḥamuka Allāh (May Allah have mercy on you). When he says to him: Yarḥamuka Allāh, then the one who sneezed should reply: Yahdīkumullāh wa yuṣliḥu bālakum (May Allah guide you and rectify your affairs).”
[Ṣaḥīḥ: al-Bukhārī 6224]

❖ Summary of the Sunnah Practice:

The one who sneezes says:
الحمد لله (Al-ḥamdu lillāh)
“Praise be to Allah.”

The responder replies:
يرحمك الله (Yarḥamuka Allāh)
“May Allah have mercy on you.”

Then the one who sneezed replies back:
يهديكم الله ويصلح بالكم (Yahdīkumullāh wa yuṣliḥu bālakum)
“May Allah guide you and rectify your condition.”
