During wudu, when washing the beard, is it necessary to wet the skin beneath the beard with water? If some hairs of the beard remain dry, is the wudu valid? Please answer with reference.
Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba’d!
Therefore, it is not obligatory to wet the skin under the beard. Performing khilal is enough, and the wudu will be valid even if some hairs remain dry.

Question

Answer
Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba’d!
- The ruling of making khilal (passing fingers through) the beard during wudu is established.
- However, washing the beard and completely wetting the skin underneath it is not, to my knowledge, proven from the Prophet ﷺ.
- If one performs khilal of the beard during wudu, it is sufficient.
- In this process, naturally, some hairs will get wet while others may remain dry.
- This is not like the khilal of fingers, where the skin must be fully wetted.
Therefore, it is not obligatory to wet the skin under the beard. Performing khilal is enough, and the wudu will be valid even if some hairs remain dry.
