Is There a Specific Prayer for Entering Iḥrām? A Complete Explanation
Extracted from: Fatāwā Arkān-e-Islām
Is there any specific prayer prescribed for assuming the state of Iḥrām?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd...
There is no specific ṣalāh (prayer) that is proven exclusively for Iḥrām.
No narration from the Prophet ﷺ confirms the performance of a distinct prayer solely for the purpose of Iḥrām.
However, if a person reaches the mīqāt and the time for an obligatory prayer is near, then:
✿ It is best to perform the obligatory prayer first,
✿ Then assume Iḥrām afterwards.
This sequence aligns with the Sunnah and maintains proper order in worship.
If the person reaches the mīqāt at a time when no obligatory prayer is due, then the following steps are recommended:
➊ Perform ghusl, as one would for janābah (major ritual impurity).
➋ Apply perfume (except on the clothes of Iḥrām).
➌ Wear the Iḥrām garments.
Then, depending on the time:
◈ If it is Duḥā (forenoon) time, he may pray Ṣalāt al-Ḍuḥā.
◈ If not, he may perform Ṣalāt al-Wuḍūʾ (the prayer after ablution).
After this, he may assume Iḥrām, which is a commendable practice.
It must be emphasized that:
✿ There is no prescribed or fixed ṣalāh specifically legislated for the purpose of entering Iḥrām.
✿ Performing two rakʿahs before Iḥrām is not obligatory, nor is there any authentic hadith designating such a prayer.
