Is the Forehead Mark from Sujood a Sign of Righteousness?

The Question​

Is the mark that appears on the forehead due to frequent prostration (sujood) one of the signs of pious and righteous people?
Has any hadith mentioned that such a mark is among the qualities of the righteous?

Answer​

No — it is not correct to believe that the mark on the forehead caused by prostration is a definite sign of righteousness.

True Signs of the Righteous in Shari‘ah​

According to the Qur’an and Sunnah, the true indicators of a righteous believer include:
❀ Radiance on the face (nūr)
❀ An open and content heart (inshirāḥ al-ṣadr)
❀ Excellent character (ḥusn al-khuluq)

About the Forehead Mark​

• The presence of a mark on the forehead can depend on skin texture or physical constitution, not necessarily the length or frequency of prostrations.
• It can appear even on those who only perform the obligatory prayers.
• Conversely, it may not appear on the foreheads of people who regularly perform lengthy prostrations and numerous voluntary (nafl) prayers.

Conclusion​

The mark from sujood is not a decisive indicator of piety or closeness to Allah. Righteousness is measured by sincerity, adherence to the Sunnah, and good deeds — not by physical marks.
