Source: Fatāwā ʿIlmiyyah, Vol. 1, Kitāb al-ʿAqāʾid, p.129
Question:
Is the narration mentioned in Tārīkh al-Khulafāʾ by Imām Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī رحمه الله—stating that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه will shake hands with Allah on the Day of Judgement, greet Him with salām, and that Allah will take his hand and enter him into Paradise—authentic and reliable?
(Tārīkh al-Khulafāʾ, p. 117)
Translation:
Ibn Mājah (ḥadīth 104) and al-Ḥākim (3/84, ḥadīth 4489) reported from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"The first person whom the Truth (Allah) will shake hands with is ʿUmar. The first to be greeted with salām, and the first whose hand will be held and taken into Paradise."
This narration is graded as severely weak (سخت ضعیف).
(Anwār al-Ṣaḥīfah, p. 265)
It contains the narrator Dādū ibn ʿAṭāʾ, about whom the major scholars of ḥadīth have said:
◈ Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar رحمه الله: “Weak (ضعیف)”
(Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb, no. 1801)
◈ Imām al-Bukhārī رحمه الله: “Munkar al-ḥadīth” (narrates objectionable ḥadīth)
(Kitāb al-Ḍuʿafāʾ, p. 110; Tuḥfat al-Aqwiyāʾ, p. 39)
◈ Aḥmad ibn Abī Bakr al-Būṣīrī (d. 840 AH):
“The scholars unanimously agree on his weakness.”
◈ Ibn Kathīr رحمه الله:
"This ḥadīth is extremely munkar (objectionable), and in my opinion, not far from being fabricated."
(Jāmiʿ al-Masānīd 1/72, ḥadīth 41; Sharḥ Sunan Ibn Mājah of al-Sindhī 1/52)
The chain contains Faḍl ibn Jubayr al-Warrāq, who is not authenticated by the scholars.
◈ Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿUqaylī listed him in Kitāb al-Ḍuʿafāʾ (3/444, entry 1492) as unreliable.
◈ Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī رحمه الله has also issued a strong critique against this narration.
This narration is also found in:
◈ al-Kāmil by Ibn ʿAdī (7/2528)
◈ Tārīkh Dimashq by Ibn ʿAsākir (47/140)
◈ al-ʿIlal al-Mutanāhiyah by Ibn al-Jawzī (1/192, ḥadīth 309)

This further confirms the unreliability of the original report.
◈ Shaykh al-Albānī رحمه الله classified this ḥadīth as:
"Munkar jiddan" (extremely objectionable)
(al-Silsilah al-Ḍaʿīfah, 5/506, ḥadīth 2485)
✔ The narration “Awwalu man yuṣāfiḥuhu al-Ḥaqq...” is not authentic in any of its chains.
✔ All the chains are weak or rejected due to unreliable narrators.
✔ Several ḥadīth masters, including Ibn Kathīr, al-Dhahabī, and al-Albānī, have explicitly rejected it.
✔ Some scholars even considered it possibly fabricated (موضوع).
✔ This narration cannot be used as religious evidence.
