❖ Ruling on Speaking During Intimacy ❖
Authored by: Imrān Ayyūb Lāhorī
There is no authentic ḥadīth that prohibits speaking during marital intimacy (i.e., during intercourse). Therefore:
➤ Speaking during intercourse is permissible.
Some people mistakenly consider it makrūh (disliked) by comparing it to talking during relieving oneself. However, this analogy is invalid, due to the following distinction:
➤ Defecation is related to filth and impurity,
➤ Whereas intimacy is an act of pleasure and marital fulfillment, and is not impure in its essence.
Thus, drawing parallels between the two is incorrect and unjustified.
➤ There is no textual evidence to declare speech during intimacy impermissible or disliked.
➤ As long as the conversation is dignified and free of vulgarity, it remains within the bounds of permissibility.
