❖ Question:

Is it permissible according to Shari‘ah to rent out or take a house on rent?

❖ Answer:

Alhamdulillah, was-salatu was-salamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba‘d!

Renting out a house or taking a house on rent is permissible in Shari‘ah. During the blessed era of the Prophet ﷺ, land was rented out, and this practice was well-known and accepted.

This is further supported by the narration of Rafi‘ ibn Khadij (RA) and others, recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.

➥ Therefore, giving or taking a house or land on rent is a lawful and legitimate practice in Islam.
