❖ Ruling on Performing Salah in a Mosque Built by a Non-Muslim
Derived from: “Ahkam wa Masail in the Light of Qur’an and Hadith”, Volume 02
❖ Question
Is it permissible to perform Salah in a mosque that was constructed by a non-Muslim, particularly when the non-Muslim has gifted (hibah) the mosque to Muslims?❖ Answer
✔ Yes, it is permissible to perform Salah in a mosque built by a non-Muslim, provided that:① The non-Muslim has formally gifted the mosque to Muslims, and
② The mosque is now under Muslim ownership and control.
Once the property has been transferred and dedicated for the purpose of worshiping Allah, it assumes the status of a masjid (place of worship) in Islamic law.
✿ Supporting Evidence from Hadith:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:«جُعِلَتْ لِيَ الأَرْضُ مَسْجِدًا...»
“The entire earth has been made a place of prostration for me...”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)

As long as the building has been formally dedicated as a mosque, ownership transferred to the Muslim community, and it meets the criteria of Shari‘ah, then Salah therein is valid and accepted.
