Is Nikah Allowed Between Milk Uncle and Niece in Islam?

❖ Source:

Fatāwā Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri

❖ Question:

My nephew Khaleel drank my mother’s milk. Can I marry him to my daughter?

✿ Answer:

No, this marriage is not permissible.
In this case, Khaleel becomes your milk-brother because he drank your mother’s milk.
Therefore, he is the milk-uncle (raḍāʿī chāchā) of your daughter, and your daughter is his milk-niece (raḍāʿī bhatījī).

Just as a biological uncle cannot marry his niece, likewise, a milk-uncle cannot marry his milk-niece, because:

"Whatever relationship is prohibited through lineage (nasab) is also prohibited through breastfeeding (raḍāʿah).”

❖ Quranic Evidence:

وَبَنَاتُ الْأَخِ
﴿النساء: 23﴾

Translation:

“And (also forbidden to you are) the daughters of your brothers...”
[Surah An-Nisā’: 23]

This ruling includes both biological and milk-nieces.

✅ Summary:

  • Khaleel drank your mother's milk → He becomes your milk-brother.
  • Your daughter becomes his milk-niece.
  • Nikāḥ between a milk-uncle and milk-niece is ḥarām.
  • Marriage prohibitions due to breastfeeding are equal to those due to blood relations.
