Is It Permissible to Wipe Over Shoes in Wudū? Sharʿī Ruling Explained

🥿 Sharʿī Ruling on Wiping Over Shoes Above the Ankles

❓ Question:

What is the ruling on performing masḥ (wiping) over shoes in wuḍū?

📖 Answer by:

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakīl Nāṣir (ḥafiẓahullāh)

📌 Ruling and Condition:

  • If the shoes cover the ankles (i.e., extend above the ankles),
they are considered similar to khuffayn (leather socks) in Islamic law.
  • Therefore, masḥ over such shoes is permissible, just as it is allowed over khuffayn.

✅ Summary:

Condition: Shoes must completely cover the ankles.
Ruling: In such a case, wiping (masḥ) is valid during wuḍū.
❌ Shoes below the ankles do not qualify for masḥ.
