❖ Wearing a Watch During the Mourning Period (Ḥidād) ❖
This response is derived from the book “500 Questions and Answers for Women,” which includes the fatwas of the Scholars of the Haramain, translated by Hafiz Abdullah Saleem.
Is it permissible for a woman to wear a watch during the mourning period (ḥidād) if the sole purpose is to check the time and not for adornment or beautification?
Yes, it is permissible, because the ruling is based on intention. If the intention is merely to tell the time and not for beautification, then wearing a watch is allowed.
However, it is preferable not to wear it, as a watch resembles a piece of jewelry in appearance.
