Is It Permissible to Take a Friend’s Salary in Islam? Sharʿi Guidance

Taking a Friend’s Salary: Is It Sharʿi Permissible? Complete Guidance

Taken from: Aḥkām wa Masāʾil – Masāʾil al-Buyūʿ, vol.1, p.392

❖ The Question

I was working as a teacher, but due to other commitments I left the job. I appointed a friend in my place for teaching and asked him that if he would give me his first salary, it would be a favor from him. My friend happily agreed.

Now the question is: Is that salary Sharʿan permissible for me or not?

❖ The Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:

In this situation, the best and most appropriate course is that you should not take that amount.
And if you have already received it, you should return it.
